iPhone OS 3.0 Beta 3 is out
If you’re a developer dabbling away with the latest builds (or one of those clever dastardly ge
nts who managed to get access to the beta firmware through other means), you’ve got an update waiting for you. Apple has just pushed iPhone OS 3.0 Beta 3 out the door.
The changes seem minor, but here’s whats been noticed so far:
- Obligatory performance improvements
- MMS now works on T-Mobile in Germany, if you modify the carrier bundle
- Spotlight now saves the last search
- Spotlight search options (Want to only search apps, or everything but music?)
- Minor UI tweaks
- iPod Touches can now change the function tied to double tapping the home button
It’s a small one at face value, but likely fixes a number of bugs sneaking around behind the scenes. We’ll let you know if anything else pops up.

Gmail for Mobile Gets a New Web Interface for iPhone and Android

Until iPhone OS 3.0 hits our handsets this summer, the built-in Mail application is disappointingly inadequate for those that live within their Gmail inbox. There are just too many places where it fails to meet the functionality granted by the web version (search and batch management, to name a few). Even with a bit more functionality on its side, however, Web Apps tend to feel a bit archaic; looking to expand its functional arsenal whilst refreshing its look, Google has just started to roll out a new version of their mobile Gmail web interface.
Most of the visual changes are side effects of a more optimized UI, doing away with the almost absurd amount of scrolling required by the last interface. Search has been moved from the bottom of the screen to a button at the top. Want to delete a handful of e-mails? No more scrolling back to the top post-selection – there is now a Archive/Delete/More bar (which they call “floaty bar”. Love the name.) which follows you down the page once you’ve begun to select your emails, as well as when you’re in an e-mail. They’ve also improved label visibility, and made it a good bit easier to navigate through your deeply threaded conversations.
There are a few improvements beneath the surface, as well, with performance enhancements across the board. In addition, they’ve tweaked it to ensure that Gmail stays alive regardless of signal strength; if you’re on the train and dropping out of signal every few seconds, you’ll still be able to click into recently read messages and compose without unfortunate time outs.
The changes may seem somewhat trivial, but the experience really is a whole lot more enjoyable. If you’re running iPhone OS 2.2.1, expect to see the new interface roll out to your account sometime today (if it hasn’t already). It’s also going live for Android users (though we’re not sure how many Android users stick to the web interface – the built-in Gmail client is a dream.)

iPhone 3.0 : Kes,yapıştır, MMS, Push ve daha fazlası

iPhone yani arkasında duran Apple yine yaptı yapacağını. Aslında her cep telefonu firmasının aslına bakarsanız her teknoloji firmasının yaptığını yapıyor denebilri.

iPhone 3.0 Will Be Unveiled on March 17
Apple has just announced that iPhone 3.0 — the next version of the system software for this smartphone — will be unveiled on March 17.
This will not be the day the new version is released; instead, Apple will be giving an “advance preview” of what will be available later.
What’s In iPhone 3.0?
At this point, exactly what’s going to be unveiled is mostly still a mystery. Apple is generally fairly good at keeping details on future products under wraps, and this is a good example.
In the absence of reliable rumors, all that’s left is speculation. Much of this is centered around long-asked-for features.
At the top of most people’s list is Cut and Paste functionality. The iPhone’s competitors and critics love to bring up that this model is missing what many consider a very basic feature.
Another possibility is the long-awaited support for Adobe Flash. This is highly requested feature from users, and last month Adobe CEO Shantanu Narayen announced that Apple had asked his company to create a version of the Flash player for the iPhone.
A Flash player is on virtually all desktop PCs, but has only been slowly creeping onto smartphones. Devices without it aren’t be able to easily view many web sites, as these depend on Flash for navigation. In addition, popular sites like Hulu, Fox on Demand, and NBC.com require a high-performance Flash player to view their videos.
Other additional features that might be part of iPhone 3.0 include support for MMS messages and data tethering.
Looking Ahead to a New Model
Apple is expected to introduce a new version of the iPhone this summer. If it follows its previous practice, this device will debut with the iPhone 3.0 software, and an update for the current model will be released shortly thereafter.
Although Apple calls it the iPhone Firmware, it is also the system software for the non-smartphone version of this device, the iPod touch.
iPhone 4G Concept Is a MacBook In a Phone
Oh. So. Pretty. It needs some small aesthetic fixes here and there, but boy I would like to see something along these lines coming from Apple. And I like the fantasy specs too.
